First United Methodist Church of Warsaw is a downtown church located in the county seat of Kosciusko County. Church family members are young and old, married and single. Strong children and youth ministry draw many parents with children. Senior members find meaningful activities through various Bible studies and fellowship opportunities for senior adults. Our church family is represented by a wide range of professions, in both the manufacturing and service sectors.
The church traces its heritage back to 1838 when Reverend Richard Hargrave preached the first Methodist sermon in Warsaw. In 1915, the current building, a domed brick church, was built. In 1968 Methodists voted to join with the Evangelical United Brethren Church forming the United Methodist Church. In 1979 a major renovation added office space and updated the sanctuary. Fifty-six different senior pastors and fifteen associate pastors have served First United Methodist Church .
First United Methodist Church has a proud heritage, and a bright future.
Two styles of worship are offered each Sunday. Traditional worship includes hymns accompanied by our beautiful pipe organ and an anthem by our Sanctuary Choir and once a month by our Ginn Handbells. Contemporary worship music is led by our praise team, utilizes computer graphics, and video projection. Music ministries from individuals and groups are added to our services throughout the year.
A third worship style is added in the summer with our lakeside service at Lucerne Park. From Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day weekend services are held in this outdoor setting and worship is a blend of traditional and contemporary.
You are invited to "Get Connected" to our Church Family and visit First United Methodist Church of Warsaw this Sunday. We will do all that we can to make you feel welcome and at home.
First United Methodist Church of Warsaw believes in One God, who is the maker of heaven and earth. "In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth . . . a wind from God swept over the waters."(Genesis 1:1-2)
We believe in Jesus Christ, God's Son. Jesus suffered and died on a cross. He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. Jesus came to show us God's love: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that everyone who believes in him may not perish but have everlasting life."(John 3:16)
We believe in the Holy Spirit which continues to comfort, strengthen, and empower God's people today as on the day of Pentecost: "All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability."(Acts 2:4)
We believe that God's grace is freely offered to all. We cannot earn God's love and forgiveness; it is a gift. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God so that no one will boast."(Ephesians 2:8)
We believe that the Holy Scriptures provide everything necessary for salvation. "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." (Psalm 119:105) The Bible, God's Word, is our guide.
We believe that the Church exists to continue the ministry of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "For the Son of Man has come to seek out and to save the lost." (Luke 19:10) The Church is God's instrument in the world. The Church is a family of believers who are united by Jesus Christ. We are here to encourage and love one another.
We also believe that there's a place for you at First United Methodist Church of Warsaw. No matter where you are or where you have been, we open our doors and our arms to you. We hope you will join us soon.
